Piano Recital

May seems to be the month for recitals! I made these for the refreshment time after the performances, and the kids really liked finding the cookie with their name on it. Having something personalized can really make you feel special. I also like the color combinations of the stars. It made a much prettier plate than just the black and white music notes.

I'm still working out the photography problem! I like that I was able to take these in natural, directional light, but I'm not sure the black background will always be the best choice...

Summer Bugs

This may have been the most fun I've had decorating cookies, probably because of all of the polka-dots. I was a little bummed when most of my caterpillars fell apart as I took them off the baking sheet, but the tiny circles turned into such cute little bugs! Summer is just around the bend...

Baby Caroline

My husband's coworker is about to have a baby girl named Caroline, and I had so much fun making these baby face cookies for them. I'm learning a little more about pacing - these cookies were done by 10:00. Then there was the half-hour photography session...and subsequent blog post.

Taking pictures of my cookies seems to be another big learning curve - how to photograph food so that it both appears edible and the colors reflect reality. You'd think it wouldn't be too complicated. I mean, they're not moving.
Happy Baby!

Birthday Cookies for Leigh

I made these cookies for my friend's coworker. I love the purple/green color combination, and my new scalloped cutter! I did not love being up until almost midnight (again) trying to finish them up. Now that my toddler can reach the top of the kitchen table, I don't trust my ability to keep her out of them while I work. Thank goodness she goes to bed at 8!

Easter Cookies

This is a little sampling of the Easter Cookies I made for a sweet little group of 8-11 year-old girls. They really got a kick out of the bunnies!

I think I have finally started to figure out how to manage enough wait time so that the colors don't bleed together when I am piping them side by side. The dots on the eggs are not as flat as I'd like - I think I need to make my flood icing a little bit thinner, but a 3-D look is still pretty cute.

Oreo Cream Cake

Wow. This was a bit labor-intensive, but definitely delicious! Chocolate chip cake, with oreo cream frosting on the inside, chocolate fudge icing on the outside, with more of that yummy cream stuff on the top. Not to mention the crumbled oreo's for an added bonus. It's a good thing birthdays only come around once a year - this is too dangerous to have around the house more often than that!

Snowflake Cookies

Well, you've got to start somewhere. And I can thank Southern Living Magazine, for have a picture of some much more beautiful cookies that inspired me. Also, my stepmom, for encouraging me and pointing out several VERY helpful blogs I love to visit for instruction and ideas. This coming holiday should be a little less intense, should I make them again.
